Decision Support under Uncertainty in Spatial Contexts: The Geologic Map Creation Case

چکیده
It is widely-recognized that space, together with its relation to application features, plays a vital role in several domains such as geographic information systems, multimedia systems, cartography, and remote sensing. In all these domains a multitude of rich and complex information is involved. Therefore, it is quite important to have tools for efficient representation, retrieval, and reasoning. Database systems play a central role in all aforementioned application areas, although current technology and conceptual tools do not adequately support users needs. Most of the features involved are related to subjective assessments of experimental results. As it is evident, uncertainty arises as an inherent property, which is especially important while under addressed in spatial database and related decision systems. This paper is focused on the incorporation of uncertainty in modelling and reasoning issues of such systems. The proposed approach is verified in a case study related to geology maps. 2. Approach The proposed methodology for handling uncertainty in features related to space consists of the following steps: a) Data specification and collection b) Data processing and model extraction c) Reasoning and decision support The specification and collection of data, which are application specific, result in a well-defined experimental data set. This data set consists of feature values corresponding to various locations of the area under study. Provided that the collected data set is a sample of the reality and does not describe the whole area of interest, appropriate interpolation methods are applied to assign feature values to all spatial granules.

Resilient Decision Making in Open Pit Short-term Production Planning in Presence of Geologic Uncertainty
Short-term production plans are the basis for operational mine production schedules. They concentrate on making long-term mine plans operationally feasible. Furthermore, some variables such as ore grade and tonnage govern mine production systems and cause uncertainty in the supply of raw materials to the mills. Due to the quality variation of material, short-term production optimization is an u...

Usually, in real-world engineering problems, there are different types of uncertainties about the studied variables, which can be due to the specific variables under investigation or interaction between them. Fuzzy cognitive maps, which addresses the cause-effect relation between variables, is one of the most common models for better understanding of the problems, especially when the quantitati...

A multiplex is a kind of urban cultural facilities which not only has several different rooms for showing films, but also provides other services such as a wide range of food and drink stores and free/easy available parking. Multiplexes have significant cultural, economic and social characteristics. Given the importance and advantages of multiplexes, several multiplex buildings have been built ...
متن کاملA novel risk-based analysis for the production system under epistemic uncertainty
Risk analysis of production system, while the actual and appropriate data is not available, will cause wrong system parameters prediction and wrong decision making. In uncertainty condition, there are no appropriate measures for decision making. In epistemic uncertainty, we are confronted by the lack of data. Therefore, in calculating the system risk, we encounter vagueness that we have to use ...
